12 Christmas gift ideas for 2024 (when prices are crazy) that are affordable, practical, and meaningful!
With the way prices have been in the US this year, it is completely understandable to feel nervous about the expense of Christmas gifts in 2024. Now, if you’re anything like me, you WANT to give gifts to the meaningful people in your life to express your love and appreciation for them.

The whole “money being tight” thing is pushing me to think outside the box, and figure out inexpensive Christmas gift ideas that will truly show the people in my life that I SEE them, KNOW them, and LOVE them.
As I’ve brainstormed, I’ve come to realize that there are actually lots of cool Christmas gift ideas that aren’t that expensive at all. And the best part is, these types of gifts will actually get used.

From useful Amazon finds to homemade gifts, here are 12 Low-Cost/No-Cost Christmas Gift Ideas for 2024 to inspire your gift-giving this holiday season!
12 Low-Cost/No-Cost Christmas Gift Ideas for 2024
1. Set of storage bins/cubes

People can almost always use a little more organization in their lives. Organizing bins can be an extra expense and a hassle to go out and purchase. So gift your loved one with a set of inexpensive, yet nice looking organization bins. You can even use the pack of bins as a little gift basket for another gift!
Here’s a few Amazon finds for organizing bins –
- Collapsible fabric storage cubes (pack of 6)
- Linen closet organizer bins with handles (pack of 3)
- Clear refrigerator/pantry organizer bins (pack of 9)
2. Specialty Ingredients/Grocery Items

High-quality foods like extra virgin olive oil, 100% pure maple syrup, and bone broth can be expensive. So while it may seem uninteresting to give someone food ingredients for Christmas…I guarantee you they will actually really appreciate it. Just make sure to select ingredients they already use or have been wanting to try.
Also, if you have a membership to a bulk foods store like Costco or Sam’s Club, you can gift your friends a bulk size of an ingredient they use a lot so that it will last them a long time.
Here are a few ideas:
- 100% pure maple syrup, raw local honey, coconut sugar
- fruit preserves, olives
- extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, sesame oil, coconut oil
- dried fruit, nuts, seeds
- good quality chocolate for eating or baking
- bone broth for cooking or sipping
- spices/seasonings, 100% pure extracts (vanilla extract, almond extract, etc.)
- nut butter, tahini
- specialty baking ingredients: almond flour, coconut flour, etc.
3. Ingredients to Make Non-Toxic Homemade Cleaning Products
Got a friend who’s interested in beginning a sustainable non-toxic lifestyle? Grab a cleaning caddy, and fill it with the essential ingredients they will need to make their own non-toxic cleaners throughout the year. Make sure to include amber spray bottles and waterproof labels so they can keep their cleaning products organized.

With the same simple, all-natural ingredients like white vinegar, baking soda, isopropyl alcohol, etc. you can whip up a variety of safe, non-toxic cleaning products such as all-purpose cleaning spray, disinfectant spray, window/mirror cleaner, laundry detergent, handsoap, etc.
Our Oily House is my go-to resource for non-toxic cleaning product recipes!
Examples of these ingredients would be:
- white vinegar
- baking soda
- castile soap
- isopropyl alcohol
- Good quality essential oils for aroma and disinfecting properties: lemon, tea tree
- glass amber spray bottles with waterproof labels
4. Printed Photos/ Photo album

This is the perfect gift for someone who loves going back down memory lane. Print out photos from memorable trips, college days, life milestones, and even silly selfies together.
Printing photos at Walgreens (or similar) is usually cheap and easy! Organize the photos in a physical album (like this linen photo album with sticky pages…I have two of these) or wrap them in twine and gift them loose!
5. 12-Pack of Ball Mason Jars

Believe me when I say this: Mason jars are one of the THE MOST cost-effective and versatile things you can ever buy for your home.
You can buy these in many sizes: quarter pint, half pint, pint, quart, 2 quart, etc. You can also choose between regular and wide-mouth jars, silver or gold lids, air-tight lids, aesthetic wooden lids, etc.
(NOTE*- in my experience, the best place to buy Mason jars are hardware stores like Menards, Ace, Tractor Supply…or check your local grocery store. They should be under 20 bucks for a 12-pack)
They have SOOO MANY USES! –
- pantry dry storage/organization…check out these airtight mason jar lids for storage
- drinking glasses
- baby bottles (yes!)
- measuring glass (some mason jars have measurements on the side)
- biscuit cutter/cookie cutter
- rolling pin
- food storage for leftovers
- freezer storage
- home decor, vases, art projects, candle-making, DIY beauty products
- planting
- actual food canning projects like jam or tomato sauce
- baby food storage
- gift giving containers

6. Thrifted Items…or Money for Thrifting

Honestly, anytime you need/want to buy something, just start at a thrift store. You can find great buys for amazing prices this way. Plus, you may actually find a really unique Christmas gift that your local big box stores just wouldn’t have.
Anddd if you have a friend who LOVES to go thrifting, you can give them a gift card just for that purpose…so they can go thrifting for free!
7. Handmade Book of Personalized Coupons

This can be a fun gift idea for your kids or spouse. It’s free, and you can make it as unique and personalized as you want. You can either create your own coupon books with blank paper or purchase blank Christmas coupon books.

Many staple foods like sourdough bread, yogurt, and kombucha are actually self-sustaining/self-producing. This means that once you have the starter ingredient, you can continue to make these food products over and over again without having to buy them from the store.

And if YOU already have the starter for one of these foods…you can just share some of yours. Can anyone say FREE?
