Roasting broccoli in the oven with olive oil and sea salt crisps the edges of the florets and gives the broccoli a delicious roasted flavor. This oven roasted broccoli is a low-effort and healthy side dish that can go with just about any meal (try it with my Crispy Chicken Thighs with Sourdough Bread Stuffing!)

I find the texture of oven roasted broccoli to be overall more interesting than plain steamed broccoli. Roast it for more time if you want more browning/crispiness. I just eyeball it and then take it out of the oven when it looks good!
You can also play around with the seasonings too. Want a bit of lemon? Squeeze a fresh lemon wedge over the broccoli after it comes out of the oven? Want a carmelized onion flavor? Carmelize some onion strips in a pan, then add to the broccoli mixture before roasting. You could even do a mix of broccoli and cauliflower. Simple dishes made with real food ingredients are so easy to customize 🙂
Why You’ll Love this Recipe
Yummy texture! – unlike steamed broccoli, roasted broccoli gets a little crispy on the edges of the florets. Personally, I love the crispiness combined with the sea salt 🙂
Super easy! – Toss the broccoli with oil and seasonings and pop it in the oven. You can even roast one kind of veggie on one side of the pan, and roast broccoli on the other!

Tips
- Spread out the broccoli in a single layer so that it crisps up more rather than softens.
- Use raw broccoli florets (not frozen) for best texture and flavor
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of raw broccoli florets (not frozen)
- approx 3 stalks worth
- hearty drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
- adds delicious flavor and helps it get a little crispy on the edges 🙂
- pinch or 2 of sea salt (approx 1/16th tsp)
- or salt to taste!
- dash of white pepper or freshly-cracked black pepper
- to taste!

Optional Flavor Add-ins
- Squeeze of fresh lemon over the broccoli once it’s done roasting
- Add 1-2 cloves of chopped garlic to the broccoli before roasting
- Pinch or 2 of red pepper flakes before roasting
Ways to Enjoy Oven Roasted Broccoli
Roasted Broccoli has such a delicious slightly crispy texture compared to steamed or boiled broccoli (which is softer). It makes the perfect side dish for just about any entree. Try serving this oven Roasted Broccoli along with Crispy Chicken Thighs with Sourdough Stuffing or Savory Beef and Kale with Roasted Butternut Squash.
You could even throw some of this roasted broccoli into an omelette or quiche for breakfast or brunch.
Honestly, sometimes I find myself eating pieces of this roasted broccoli all on its own for a healthy, salty snack 🙂

How to Make Oven Roasted Broccoli
First, Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
If working with broccoli stalks, remove the large stalk and break the broccoli down into bite-sized florets. Rinse your broccoli florets and dry them with a paper towel.
Next, add the broccoli florets to either a baking dish or a sheet pan.
Drizzle them with a hearty drizzle of extra virgin olive oil for great flavor and slightly crispy texture on the edges. Season them with a pinch or 2 of sea salt and a few dashes of white pepper or freshly-cracked black pepper. Mix the oil and seasonings together with the broccoli, and spread the broccoli out in a single layer.
(If you would like to add fresh garlic, red pepper flakes, or any other seasonings, do so at this time).
Roast the broccoli in the oven for about 20-25 minutes until the broccoli starts to brown slightly and crisp on the edges of the florets.
