Wash and dry your fresh strawberries.
Remove the leafy tops and thinly slice the strawberries vertically.
Place the sliced strawberries in a bowl and mash them with a potato masher 3/4 of the way until they appear juicy. You still want to leave some chunks of strawberries though.
Add a sprinkle of sugar (1 tsp or less), and stir.
Cover the bowl of strawberries and refrigerate for at least a few hours (or overnight) before serving.
Store in the refrigerator for up to a week. Serve as a delicious topping for breakfast recipes and desserts all summer long!
